A Short History
Great Hampden was First mentioned in the Doomsday Book of 1086 as Hamdena. By the 14th Century Hamdena was split into two villages now known as Great and Little Hampden. It was also around this time Hampden House was first rebuilt. The estate today largely covers Great Hampden and Green Hailey but does border other villages such as Dunsmore, Speen, Prestwood, Bryants bottom, Parslows Hillock with the nearest major settlement being Princes Risborough.
The Estate Today
Despite Hampden House no longer being a part of the estate, the rest of the estate maintains ties to the Hampden family.
Located within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty the estate has always been proud of its farming practices and a sustainable approach to being a positive custodian of the countryside. It maintains a key focus on soil health and ever adapting farming techniques in partnership with farm tenants and contractors alike, it continuous down this path to this very day.
While boundaries have changed and the estate has developed over time, today it represents a modern & diversified business built on the back of sustainable farming methods, ancient woodland and diversification of its assets.
